Easter Holidays in Cyprus

Holidays in Cyprus – here’s how our guests enjoyed their Easter with us!

Holidays in Cyprus are fantastic fun all the year round, but with the Cypriot’s love of a good celebration, the guests at our hotel enjoyed some extra special treats over the Easter holidays. Easter is one of the most important events on the Cypriot religious calendar, with families coming together to worship, celebrate and perhaps most importantly, to share delicious food and drink!

For visitors at our resort, we always try to add an extra dimension to their holidays in Cyprus by giving them the opportunity to become involved in the island’s celebrations and activities. We think that it’s part of the magic of a holiday in Cyprus, inviting visitors to join in with the locals and get a real taste of Cypriot culture. Easter was, as always, a great success – here’s a look at some of the activities that we provided for guests who wanted to take part in our Easter fun.

Easter fun at the Columbia Beach Resort

For guests joining us for their holidays in Cyprus over Easter, we wanted to make sure that there was plenty of choice for things to take part in. The weather was beautiful – after all, it is one of Cyprus’s main attractions! We did have a spot of rain on Good Friday – not what you perhaps expect from your holiday in Cyprus, but this seems to be a long running tradition, almost as much a part of our Easter festivities as the church-based celebrations and amazing food.

Here at the Columbia Beach Resort, we appreciate that holidays in Cyprus aren’t just for the grown-ups.  Our Sailors Kids Club always offers great activities for the kids, giving the parents some much needed time to relax! This also ensures that the younger members of your party make some new friends for their Cyprus holidays and take home some great memories. This year, the Sailors Kids Club was very busy, with lot of excited children getting involved in our Easter handicrafts workshop. The kids produced some brilliant stuff – we will post some photographs to demonstrate their talents as soon as we can.

On Easter Saturday, we held an Easter pastry demonstration, delivered by the capable culinary expertise of our own master baker. Lots of guests came along to watch and were shown how to make Flaounes (a tasty cheese bread) and Tsourekia (a lovely sweet bread). Everyone had a great time but we suspect the highlight of the session was when the guests were allowed to tuck in and sample some of these freshly made traditional Cypriot Easter dishes.

For visitors who wanted to see how the Greek Orthodox Church celebrates Easter, we put on a bus to take them along to the Apostolos Andreas Church in Pissouri village. They took part in the Midnight Mass celebration, or as it’s known locally, the Kalo Logo.

Easter Sunday saw us serve up a delectable buffet lunch, with the amazing aroma of Souvla permeating the whole atmosphere. Souvla consists of generous hunks of meat, slow cooked on kebab skewers over a charcoal BBQ. Our restaurant is well known for being a favourite with both resort guests and locals and Easter was no exception to this – we catered for a great mix of both and the ambience was friendly and exciting.

So Easter this year at the Columbia Beach Resort was another resounding success - we can’t wait till next year comes around! If you’re interested in joining us for an Easter holiday in Cyprus, please visit the Columbia Beach Resort website to find out how you can book.
