Green Monday is a fabulous family time, where loved ones and friends gather together in the parks and on the beaches to celebrate the start of this important religious period. Although the festival is linked to the important religious period of fasting, Green Monday in Cyprus is all about fun - and kite flying! Yes, on Green Monday the skies are turned into a multicolour spectacular, as mums and dads join children and grandparents and launch their beautiful kites skywards.

Kite flying is a long-loved tradition in Cyprus and is an activity that can be enjoyed by everyone – festivals across the world use kites as part of their celebrations, but on Green Monday, there’s no fierce competition, just a little bit of friendly rivalry to see who can get their kite to fly the highest!
