COLUMBIA Cat Care Project

What are we doing here and why?

We are protecting cats and the environment; in respect of the Cypriot environmental balance being disturbed by the increasing number of cats on the island.

The COLUMBIA Hotels & Resorts, an International group, with strong beliefs in environmental protection and animal rights, created the COLUMBIA Cat Care Project.
The project’s main aim is to neuter and vaccinate male and female cats. The cats are housed in a beautiful location; the COLUMBIA Beach Resort grounds!
We at COLUMBIA Hotels & Resorts believe we need the cats to keep up the balance in our hotel’s environment, with their sweet natures, bringing a certain character; unlike any other hotel.

However, they need our support.
Our cats have a little heart in their ears. This is to signify that the cat has been vaccinated and neutered and is part of our project.

We request guests’ assistance, in helping to maintain the cat’s daily routine set by the COLUMBIA Cat Care Project.
For this to run smoothly we request that our guests do not feed the cats at the restaurants. We know it can be very hard not to, but this tends to cause an imbalance in their routine and feeding can then be difficult to regulate. We have 3 feeding areas within the grounds that we would like the cats to understand are the only places they should be eating at. We highly appreciate the help!

If guests would like to join in the COLUMBIA Cat Care Project and be a “Godparent” to one of our cats, if they are in Cyprus, they can ask at Reception, where they will inform you of the details and assist you in becoming a member of our programme.

If you take a liking to a specific cat or kitten through their photos on the website you can sponsor the cat and in a lot of cases actually name it yourself.

We will also keep you updated with regards to your cat in an annual newsletter.

Guests at the hotel have the opportunity through our resident veterinarian Dr. John Pieroua, to take their sponsored cat home with them when they leave.

The COLUMBIA Hotels & Resorts is the first hotel in Cyprus to run a project such as this and we hope our idea finds your acceptance and support.
