The new urban lifestyle
The Columbia Beach Resort in Cyprus has announced the launch of a new restaurant at its stunning site in Pissouri Bay on the south west coast. Named Bacchus, the new menu has been created by the Resort’s award-winning Chef de Cuisine Mr Ioannis Giakoumidis. Named after the mythical Greek god of wine and mystical ecstasy, Bacchus will offer gourmet Italian cuisine celebrating regional specialities from across Italy. The restaurant will be open at the end of March in time for Easter.
Ioannis said: “Italian food is increasingly becoming one of the most popular cuisines worldwide. The rich soils of Cyprus provide us with a wealth of produce enabling us to create an exciting menu based on typical regional Italian cuisine. Our guests will see some favourites such as Stuffed Calamari and the Italian classic Vitello Tonato on the menu, but we will also be offering dishes that are more unusual to tempt jaded palates such as Cocoa Fetuccine with Pork Cheeks Ragout.
Regular guests of the Resort will not be surprised that the new restaurant will echo the excellence of the fine dining restaurant that Bacchus replaces. Giakoumidis has a knack of combining different ingredients to create outstanding and imaginative dishes.
General Manager Mr Stelios Kizis comments: “Bacchus will offer lovers of Italian food the chance to try something new as well as many regular dishes from the gastronomic hotspot. Our aim is to continue the reputation we have gained for cuisine excellence. In addition our master baker will continue to produce new and innovative breads and pastries on a daily basis; all designed to complement the cuisine across all our restaurants including the Apollo Taverna which showcases the best regional cuisine from Cyprus.”
The Columbia Beach Resort is the ultimate in discreet opulence, a secluded hideaway where the stylish accommodation is matched by excellent service and a warm Cypriot welcome. A selection of beach, pool and hotel bars enables guests to make the most of the magnificent Mediterranean views framed by the cliffs of Cape Aspro.
The distinctive architecture of the Resort is inspired by local Cypriot villages featuring low rise buildings in local stone. The sloping roofs furnished with reclaimed terracotta tiles and shutters on the windows and abundance of natural wood give the resort a discreetly aged and traditional look. The stylish and well-appointed accommodation is arranged in 'villas' clustered around the spectacular 80m infinity style pool surrounded by rugged cliffs and acres of vineyards in the valley behind.
Also launching in time for Easter is a make-over of the Resort’s award-winning spa*. Now called the Hébe Spa, inspired by the mythical Greek goddess of youth of the same name, the leading luxury British spa and skincare brand Elemis will be added to the re-vamped spa menu. Elemis will complement the anti-ageing spa and beauty range Daniele de Winter Monaco that is exclusive to this hotel in Cyprus. Also new to the Hébe Spa is the introduction of a Medi-Spa range with three aesthetic treatments for the face and body that mimic cosmetic surgery without invasive needles or chemicals. To complete the new menu for 2012 the Hébe Spa is launching their own bespoke Signature Treatments based on Cyprus’s finest natural ingredients.
There are five treatment rooms, a Jacuzzi, sauna, steam room and plunge pool in the spa and many beds for relaxation afterwards. The spa also features fitness facilities including a 90 sq m gym equipped by Precor, two squash courts and an exercise studio with a regular programme of exercise and relaxation classes. Guests can also make use of the flood-lit tennis courts on site and mountain bikes making the most of numerous trails for all abilities.
Pissouri Bay with its 2km Blue Flag beach offers warm clean waters and reliable mid-strength winds making near perfect conditions to learn water-sports such wind-surfing. Last year a new five star PADI scuba diving facility was launched at the Columbia Beachotel next door in the bay where guests as young as 10 years old can discover scuba-diving or work towards a PADI qualification. Golf enthusiasts benefit from Cyprus’s mild year round climate and four championship courses in the vicinity.
