Gourmet Celebration announced at the COLUMBIA Beach Resort in Cyprus – October 2008

This October three Michelin starred chefs will be in residence for a celebration of gourmet cuisine to be held exclusively at the five star COLUMBIA Beach Resort in Cyprus.  Lasting for three days on 28, 29 and 30 October, the celebration will feature three chefs who have been awarded Michelin stars for their cuisine. All three run restaurants based in hotels in the COLUMBIA Hotels & Resorts group, a small collection of unique and exclusive properties based across Germany and Cyprus. (see prices below)

The premier hotel in the group in Cyprus, the COLUMBIA  Beach Resort, is a luxury hideaway located on the south west coast of the island in Pissouri Bay.   The hotel has received wide acclaim for the standard of cuisine, particularly for its highly original and flavoursome gastronomic fayre at the Dionysos restaurant, run by chef Mr Ioannis Yiakoumides.

Participating chefs in the gourmet celebration include Denis Feix who received his first Michelin Star at The Columbia Hotel Bad Griesbach in Southern Germany last year at its Il Giardino restaurant, Volker Drkosch who is the Chef of the Navette restaurant at the Columbia Hotel in Russelsheim, and Kevin Fehling who has been recognised in this year’s Michelin Guide with a star for La Belle Epoque restaurant at the Columbia Hotel Casino Travemünde on the Baltic coast.

Mr Stelios Kizis, General Manager of COLUMBIA Hotels & Resorts in Cyprus explains the plans for the gourmet celebration: “Food is a key part of a holiday experience, especially to our discerning and well-travelled guests who expect the best from everything our hotels have to offer. We plan to showcase the culinary skills and accolades of the chefs across the group. This will also be an opportunity for our own staff at the Dionysos restaurant to demonstrate their skill in delivering world-class dining featuring some of the wonderful fresh ingredients from Cyprus and the best from abroad.  This culinary talent is emphasised by the wonderful views and ambience here in Pissouri Bay.”

The distinctive architecture of the Resort is inspired by local Cypriot villages featuring low rise buildings in local stone.  The sloping roofs furnished with reclaimed terracotta tiles and shutters on the windows and abundance of natural wood give the resort a discreetly aged and traditional look, landscaped so that old and new blend together.  The 94 suites in this all-suite hotel are arranged in 'villas' clustered around the 80m lagoon style pool surrounded by rugged cliffs and acres of vineyards in the valley behind.  Facilities at the Beach Resort include a highly regarded spa that exclusively features Molton Brown spa treatments in Cyprus, floodlit tennis court, squash courts, fully equipped gym and elegant conference facilities.

Two evenings are available for dinner bookings at the Dionysos restaurant during the celebration; 29 and 30 October. The cost of dinner will be € 124 per person (£98.00) Price includes selected wines to accompany each course.
